HOW TO JOIN BNI?

Membership Costs

BNI Membership costs are as below:
$100 one time registration fee
$365 annual membership fee
$40   Hartland Chapter two quarterly meeting room fee ($25 one quarter)

Individual or company membership are available for purchase. The difference is that one is paid for by an individual and another is paid by a business. Your company BNI membership is good for the whole business, and you may have more than one employee represent your company at different meetings. However, it is in your best interest to designate one employee to attend BNI meetings, as chapter members will associate your company with that individual.

Individual memberships are transferable, that is, if you work for a particular company and you happen to leave that company, your BNI membership is transferable as long as your classification (profession) remain the same. However, individual attending BNI meetings under company membership must apply on their own if they leave the company.

Membership Process

If you're interest in joining, come to one of our meetings and pick up a BNI application. You can come up to two of our weekly meetings. The information you fill out gives us a good idea of what your company does, the geographical region that it serves, and whether or not you are eligible to join our chapter. To be invited to one of our meetings, contact a chapter representative or fill out the online Visitor Request Form.

Once you submit your application, it will be reviewed by the membership committee. The committee will let you know the status of your application by the following meeting.

Only one member of each "classification" (profession) is allowed to join per chapter. When you joined a chapter, your competitors will be blocked out.

If your profession is already represented in the Hartland Chapter, do not let this stop you from attending a Hartland Chapter meeting. Many times we will separate general categories into specialities in an effort to make room for more members. For example, if you are a lawyer, and when you attend our meeting, you see that we already have a lawyer, that person may represent a different aspect of the law than you do and so the classification may still be open. The purpose of this is to increase membership since the more members there are, the more referrals are passed and ultimately more business for all the members.

However, if you find someone in our chapter who offers identical services, come to a meeting anyway. This will give you a good idea how BNI is structured and we will help you find a chapter where your profession is not represented. You may want to consider joining another chapter - or even starting your own chapter!

Membership Benefits

Each week at BNI meetings, members are asked to stand and deliver a one-minute summary of their business, ending with what type of referral would be ideal for them that week. As a member of BNI, you'll be eligible to attend MSP (Member Success Program) training, which better prepares you to deliver your "60 Second Commercials" and ask for exactly the type of business you want. Once you've attended the basic training, you are then eligible to give a "10-Minute Presentation" on your business, helping everyone become even more familiar with what you do so they can help you to grow your business by finding referrals for you.

If you're afraid to stand up in front of people, or if public speaking is "not your thing", don't worry, you're in a supportive group of business people who understand both how difficult and how essential public speaking is. Invaluable BNI training and coaching programs are for you, your personal development, and your business growth.

Partial list of the BNI policies:

  • Only one person per professional classification is eligible to join a chapter.
  • All participants should represent their primary occupation, not a part time business.
  • Attendance is critical. When cannot attend a meeting, a participant may send a substitute. This will not count as an absence. More than three absences in six months period are not allowed.

Substitutes can be your customers, clients, patients, friends, family, and employees. The primary purpose for a substitute is to represent a BNI member. BNI recommends minimal use of a substitute. However, a member may use substitutes up to three times in a six month period.

Coming late (after 7:00pm, when a line was drawn on the Attendant Sheet) to three meetings will
  count as one absence.

  • Participants are required to bring qualified referrals and/or visitors to their chapter.
